The R&D team of a sensor manufacturer built substantial engineering know-how in optical systems, ultrasonic signal processing, photoelectric detection and other fields. While the engineers possessed strong technical capabilities, they lacked the awareness and methodology to convert technical solutions into patent assets. Many innovations were merely implemented without IP protection. Technical disclosures were fragmented, creating a clear disconnect between verbal R&D descriptions and patent drafting. In July 2025, the ZYIP team went on-site at the client’s R&D premises to conduct targeted patent mining covering triangulation laser ranging optical systems, echo signal modulation and acquisition for ultrasonic flowmeters, self-dimming dual-spot color photoelectric switches, double-transmitting lens focusing-correction optical systems, high-speed intelligent image detection and other topics. Nine innovation outputs were identified. Following review, these outputs moved straight into drafting. Between August and September 2025, seven invention patent applications were filed in batches, achieving seamless end-to-end workflow from mining, review and drafting to filing. Patent mining was subsequently institutionalized as a regular service. In December 2025, another invention — a phase-difference-based time-difference calculation method for ultrasonic flowmeters — was mined and filed. A new round of on-site mining was launched in September 2026.
Sensor manufacturer; its R&D team has extensive engineering accumulation in optical systems, ultrasonic signal processing and photoelectric detection.
(1) On-site patent mining alongside R&D teams In July 2025, the ZYIP team conducted on-site targeted mining covering triangulation laser ranging optical systems, echo signal modulation and acquisition for ultrasonic flowmeters, self-dimming dual-spot color photoelectric switches, double-transmitting lens focusing-correction optical systems and high-speed intelligent image detection. Nine potential patentable innovations were identified.
(2) Rapid conversion and batch filing The mined innovation points passed internal review and entered drafting immediately. Seven invention patent applications were filed collectively from August to September 2025, enabling seamless linkage across mining, review, drafting and submission.
(3) Establish a regular mining mechanism Patent mining was scheduled as a recurring service thereafter. In December 2025, the invention of the phase-difference-based time-difference calculation method for ultrasonic flowmeters was identified and filed. A fresh round of on-site mining commenced in September 2026.
This case demonstrates ZYIP’s professional strength and long-term partnership value in on-site patent mining services. Addressing the typical challenge of sensor enterprises with strong technical capacity yet weak patent capability, ZYIP did not passively wait for disclosures. Instead, we engaged deeply with frontline R&D teams and systematically converted scattered engineering experience into patentable assets through themed mining, achieving a 78% conversion rate in a single round. More importantly, ZYIP transformed one-off mining into a sustainable routine aligned with R&D iteration, turning ad-hoc patent hunting into a steady rhythm. The client’s transition from passive coordination to voluntary disclosure submission is powerful proof of our service value. Truly professional patent service is not about waiting for disclosures to arrive, but embedding into R&D, decoding technology, unlocking its value and becoming an integral part of the client’s innovation ecosystem.
