A smart technology enterprise previously entrusted another patent agency for IP services. That agency proceeded with applications based merely on fragmentary materials and verbal explanations instead of complete technical disclosures, delivering drafts rapidly and creating an initial impression of convenient cooperation. Nevertheless, this approach resulted in unduly narrowed claim scope. When competitors copied and imitated its products later, the existing patents could not support enforcement and failed to provide defensive protection. After setbacks in rights enforcement, as the enterprise developed its flagship new-generation product, it recognized that patent quality is critical to market security and turned to ZYIP for patent services. ZYIP adopted standardized and formalized service workflows, emphasized in-depth technical mining, implemented hierarchical claim drafting, recommended patent pre-examination aligned with the product launch schedule, and rolled out overseas patent planning in parallel. As a result, the invention patent was filed in May and granted in June, ahead of the official product launch, securing patent rights before commercial sales. A Hong Kong patent application was also submitted concurrently to build up IP assets in advance for overseas expansion.
Smart technology enterprise, developing and launching a flagship new-generation product with domestic and overseas market expansion plans
(1) The former agency did not require complete technical disclosures and progressed cases only with scattered materials and verbal descriptions, which easily omitted critical technical details. (2) Patent protection targets often deviated from the technologies the client intended to protect, and the scope of claims was excessively restricted. (3) When competitors copied its products subsequently, the client’s existing patents could not be enforced and lost their defensive value. (4) Upon developing its flagship new-generation product, the client urgently needed enforceable patents to avoid the previous pitfall of narrow, inoperable protection and build a solid patent defense against copycat products. (5) The client required patent schedules synchronized with product launch to shorten examination cycles, alongside planning for overseas patent protection.
Upon engagement, ZYIP implemented standardized, formalized patent service procedures. (1) Prioritize comprehensive technical mining and require complete technical disclosures. ZYIP fully captured and understood the complete technical solution to avoid missing technical details and identify the core protection targets, differentiating itself from workflows relying solely on fragmented materials and oral accounts. (2) Formulate patent layout plans following internal standards and adopt hierarchical claim design. We drafted claims with progressively narrowing limitations, avoided incorporating unnecessary technical features, calibrated protection scope reasonably, and balanced patent validity stability and enforceability. (3) Deliver tailored recommendations aligned with the client’s commercial roadmap. Based on the product launch timeline, ZYIP advised the client to apply for patent pre-examination to accelerate prosecution. In light of overseas expansion plans, we designed cross-border IP layout and pushed forward the Hong Kong patent filing. (4) Go beyond simple patent filing and integrate IP work closely with the client’s business objectives. With standardized workflows, ZYIP guided the client to shift from a sole focus on filing speed toward comprehensive protection covering quality, timing and global layout.
(1) Although the client invested time in organizing disclosures and technical communication compared with prior cooperation, the resulting patents feature well-calibrated protection scope with tangible enforcement potential, strengthening the client’s competitive position and delivering substantive business support. (2) Via the patent pre-examination channel, the invention patent filed in May was granted in June prior to the official product release, completing right confirmation before launch. (3) Overseas layout was implemented in parallel through a Hong Kong patent application, preparing IP assets for international market expansion. (4) The client’s IP strategy evolved from prioritizing filing speed to a holistic protection framework balancing quality, timeline and cross-border layout.
This case demonstrates ZYIP’s expertise in patent quality restructuring and synchronized domestic-overseas IP layout. Confronted with unenforceable patents caused by fragmented service from the previous provider, ZYIP rejected the “fast but superficial” model. Through standardized workflows covering formalized technical disclosures, hierarchical claim design, pre-examination acceleration and overseas filing, we systematically rebuilt the client’s patent quality system. The client secured patent rights before product launch and filed for Hong Kong protection to underpin overseas business expansion. The case validates ZYIP’s service philosophy: valuable patent services do not chase fast draft turnaround. Instead, solid disclosures, well-balanced claim scope and targeted layout planning turn patents into actionable competitive weapons. The client’s strategic shift from speed-only filing to integrated protection across quality, timing and global coverage best illustrates ZYIP’s professional value.
