Recently, the State Intellectual Property Administration released the "Key Statistical Data Report on Intellectual Property from January to March 2025"
The number of authorized invention patents decreased by 20.99% year-on-year, with a decrease of 52882 items;
The number of utility model patent authorizations decreased by 2.73% year-on-year, with a decrease of 11451 cases;
The number of design patent authorizations increased by 10.07% year-on-year, with an increase of 14730 items.
From January to March 2025, a total of 365000 invention patent applications were approved and 199000 were authorized, with an invention patent authorization rate of 54.52%.
The number of invention patent authorizations in January and February 2025 decreased by 15.97% year-on-year; The number of utility model patent authorizations decreased by 2.73% year-on-year and remained stable.
Quick report on the main statistical data of intellectual property from January to March 2025
1、 Patent
From January to March 2025, the authorized number of invention patents in China was 199000, the authorized number of utility model patents was 408000, and the authorized number of design patents was 161000.
As of the end of March, the effective number of invention patents in China was 5.824 million. Among them, there are 4.818 million valid invention patents in China (excluding Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan). The effective number of utility model patents is 11.78 million. The effective number of design patents is 3.115 million.
From January to March, our office accepted 16000 PCT international patent applications. Among them, domestic applicants submitted 15000 cases.
From January to February, Chinese applicants submitted a total of 362 international design applications.

2、 Trademark
From January to March, the number of trademark applications in China was 1.561 million; The number of trademark registrations is 1.101 million. As of March, there were 50.451 million valid registered trademarks.
From January to March, our office received 1521 applications for international registration of Madrid trademarks from Chinese applicants.
3、 Geographical Indication and Integrated Circuit Layout Design
From January to March, our bureau recognized 3 geographical indication products, approved 13 registrations of geographical indications as collective trademarks and certification trademarks, and approved 2051 business entities using geographical indication special indications. As of March, a total of 2547 geographical indication products have been recognized, 7415 geographical indications have been approved as collective trademarks or certification trademarks, and 34100 business entities have been approved to use geographical indication special indications.
From January to March, there were 2107 applications for registration of integrated circuit layout design in China; 2257 certificates were issued.
