Recently, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) released the ranking of the top 100 innovation clusters in the 2025 Global Innovation Index. For the first time, the Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Guangzhou Innovation Cluster surpassed Tokyo-Yokohama (Japan) to claim the global top spot, marking a crucial milestone in the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) as an international science and technology innovation hub.
Mr. Zhang Quanwen, Chairman of ZYIP and Executive Vice President of the Shenzhen Patent Association, shared insights on the respective advantages of cities in the cluster during an exclusive interview with Shenzhen TV.
Chairman Zhang Quanwen pointed out that each city in the Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Guangzhou cluster has its own strengths. Shenzhen boasts a strong sense of innovation, with its PCT (Patent Cooperation Treaty) international patent applications ranking among the highest in China for a long time. As an international financial hub, Hong Kong provides a high-quality capital environment and global resources. Meanwhile, the innovation corridor between Guangzhou and Shenzhen has gathered a large number of technology enterprises, forming an innovation ecosystem with a complete echelon and a full industrial chain.
He emphasized that this achievement stems not only from the active efforts of market entities but also from the systematic work of the government in policy support, environment creation, forward-looking layout, and talent introduction. It is precisely under such a multi-faceted joint force that the Greater Bay Area has fostered such a high-concentration innovation atmosphere. "I believe we will unleash even stronger innovation capabilities in the future," he added.
As a professional intellectual property (IP) service institution rooted in the Greater Bay Area and serving the whole country, ZYIP has always actively participated in regional innovation development, providing enterprises with high-end IP strategic planning and global layout services. Going forward, ZYIP will continue to uphold its professional spirit, offer comprehensive and high-value IP strategic services to more enterprises, universities, and research institutions, and contribute professional strength to protecting innovation achievements, stimulating innovation vitality, and mitigating innovation risks.
