From “micro-innovation” to “high value”, precisely explore to build a patent defense wall for the leading enterprises in the explosive industry

I. Case Introduction
In response to the concerns of leading enterprises in civilian explosive equipment regarding the value and patentability of their "minor innovations", we conducted in-depth technical exploration and forward-looking planning. From the scattered process improvements of these enterprises, we systematically extracted high-value technical points and formulated a "invention + utility model" combination strategy. Eventually, we successfully constructed a patent package consisting of 2 core invention patents and 6 utility models, transforming what customers regarded as "small ideas" into solid intellectual property assets.

II. Case Details

1.Customer type/industry:

One of the first batch of high-tech enterprises in China, a leading enterprise in the field of intelligent explosive equipment

2. Customer Pain Points/Problem Description:
This client, as a leading technology-driven enterprise in the industry, has an extremely urgent need for protection of its core technologies. However, the technical disclosure provided by its R&D team mainly focuses on "small but practical" process and structure improvements in production practices. The internal assessment of the client believes that these "minor innovations" are highly limited in scope and the risk of obtaining patent authorization through application is high, with a long cycle, making it difficult to meet its strategic requirements for rapid development and immediate protection. How to give these "unremarkable" improvements patent value and build an effective intellectual property barrier has become the core pain point of the client.

3. Solution/Process:
In response to the customers' concerns, we did not simply accept the disclosure materials. Instead, we initiated a specialized service for cultivating high-value patents.
(1) Tripartite in-depth consultation: We immediately established a project team consisting of the technical director, senior attorney, search analyst and consultant. We held multiple online and offline technical communication sessions with the client's R&D and intellectual property management personnel. We delved into the client's R&D scenarios and production frontlines, not missing any technical details, aiming to truly grasp the essence of the technology.
(2) Prospective Retrieval Analysis: Through in-depth communication, we conducted a thorough global patent technology and academic literature search for each improvement, accurately mapping out the technical landscape and clearly identifying the innovative points and differentiated value of each improvement.
(3) Extraction and Upgrading of Core Technology Points: The project team employed a "combined strategy" for patent mining, tracing from individual equipment improvement points back to the process control flow, extending downward to system solutions, and horizontally comparing related technologies. Eventually, from seemingly scattered improvements, they systematically and comprehensively extracted 12 core technology points with patent application value.
(4) Customized application strategy: Instead of blindly pursuing the application of all the inventions, we, based on the search analysis and the assessment of the authorization prospects, tailored a combined application strategy for our clients, which was "targeted breakthrough on core inventions + immediate protection of peripheral utility models". We selected 8 most valuable patents for the initial layout. We not only used utility models to quickly obtain rights and form immediate protection and deterrence, but also concentrated our resources to write and defend the most core 2 inventions with high quality, overcoming difficulties and achieving breakthroughs.

4. Results/Data:
(1) Quantitative results: Ultimately, two core invention patents were successfully granted, securing the highly valuable technical monopoly rights for the technical solutions that the clients considered "highly risky". The remaining six utility model patents were also all granted, quickly forming a tight peripheral protection network.
(2) High customer recognition: The head of the client's R&D team highly praised this: "I originally thought these 'small ideas' would be difficult to develop into something significant. But through your professional exploration and planning, you actually created a solid patent package for us. What you did was not just the preparation of application documents, but also provided us with a strategic solution to the problem. You truly exceeded expectations."

III. Case Evaluation
The success of this case lies in the transformation of the role from "technical agent" to "value discovery and strategic design". Not only did we identify the technological innovation value that the client failed to recognize, but also through professional search and analysis, combination strategies, and precise writing, we systematically transformed the seemingly scattered improvement points into a well-structured and balanced patent asset package with both offensive and defensive capabilities. This fully demonstrates that excellent patent services can help clients redefine the boundaries of innovation, and aggregate the wisdom from daily research and development into core competitive advantages that support the development of the enterprise.
